Du 11 octobre au 3 novembre dernier, Bermondsey Project accueillait l’exposition NIGERIA MONARCHS , The custodians of peace and cultural heritage de l’artiste George Osodi.

Le photographe est parti à la rencontre de ces fortes personnalités du paysage culturel nigérian, afin de s’introduire dans leur univers et environnement les plus intimes , réduisant les frontières avec le monde  extérieur.

Ces figures politiques exercent un grand pouvoir dans la société nigériane, et ces portraits réalisés par Osodi permettent un lien entre les communautés nigérianes établies hors du Nigéria avec leur pays natal.

On observe ici la double qualité de l’art, qui avec sa fonction  artistique mise au service de la société, rend visible la culture d’ailleurs.

Le photographe  assied sa notoriété sur son travail d’investigation dans la région du Delta au Nigéria, où l’or noir qu’est le pétrole a transformé la région en une vallée fantôme.

From October 11th to November 3rd, Bermondsey Project hosted George Osodi’s exhibition MONARCHS NIGERIA, The custodians of peace and cultural heritage .

The photographer met these  leading figures of the  cultural Nigerian landscape, in order to get into the monarchs’ intimate universe and environment, reducing  the boundaries with the outside world.
These political figures are powerful  in the Nigerian society, and these portraits made by Osodi strengthen the links between the Nigerian communities living abroad, and their homeland.

We observe here the double function of the art, through  its artistic one, is in the service of society, making visible culture from elsewhere.

Photographer establishes his fame on his photographs of Nigerian Delta region, where the black gold which is the oil,  has turned the area into a ghost valley.
